DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, August 16\n2 – 3:15 pm\nGraeser Family Education Center\n$15\, $10 WBG members (use code WBGMEMBER at checkout to receive discount)\n \n\nLee Squires\, a bonsai grower for over 48 years with around 50 trees in his collection\, will lead an introduction to bonsai lecture in anticipation of WBG’s Japanese Garden project.  \nLee will share the history of bonsai and what makes a tree or plant a bonsai. He will go over indoor vs. outdoor bonsai to clear up any confusion about where they may be successfully grown\, how to start a bonsai\, and what artistic “rules” you should follow. He will discuss in-depth the five basic styles of bonsai\, pot selection\, proper tools\, soil composition\, fertilizing\, pest control\, potting and repotting\, displaying your bonsai\, and winter care. \nSeveral bonsai will be on display and their creation discussed. The cost of bonsai will be a topic for those interested in growing their own or purchasing an already finished plant. Also written as ‘Tai Chi’\, this low-impact\, slow-motion exercise is often described as “meditation in motion.” From the air-conditioned comfort of inside the Graeser Family Education Center\, enjoy a sense of being outdoors in the Gardens with views out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Don’t worry about humidity\, mosquitoes\, or rain! \nWear comfortable\, loose clothing that will not restrict your range of motion. \nYou may practice barefoot or in lightweight shoes with thin soles that allow you to feel the floor (running shoes are unsuitable). \nSocial distancing and face masks are required during the session. \n  \nRegister Here \nRefund Policy \nAlthough we are unable to refund registration fees in the case of cancellation by the purchaser\, the paid registration can be transferred to another student. Farm to Fork Catering will be creating the recipes for our in-person dinner guests. \nChef Bradley infuses flavors of pit style bbq\, as well as world-famous country ham\, bourbon\, and century-old recipes into seasonal local-source dishes. Sara discusses the history of preserving fruits and vegetables from the garden and focuses on the importance of communal cooking and how it has been affected during the wildness of 2020. \nChef Bradley will share her recipes of the food dishes served at the Graeser Family Education Center with both in-person and virtual attendees.
