Botanica to present “Right Plant – Right Place” event featuring Dan Heims

LOUISVILLE, KY (September 10, 2010) – Botanica, a Louisville non-profit, will present the speaker event "Right Plant – Right Place" Plant Solutions for Problem Areas featuring Dan Heims.  The presentation will be held on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 3:00 pm at the Crescent Hill Woman’s Club. "Right Plant – Right Place" Plant Solutions for Problem Areas

Individual gardens can have deserts, swamps, and shady refuges. This presentation will help attendees determine how to make good choices for problem spaces.

The event will be held at Crescent Hill Woman’s Club, located at 2641 Grinstead Drive, Louisville, KY  40206.  Free parking is available in a surface lot adjacent to the building. Tickets to the event are $15 for adults, $5 for students (with a valid student ID).  Admission is free for Botanica Members. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.botanicakentucky.org. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the event.

About Dan Heims:
For 34 years, Dan Heims has been deeply involved in all facets of horticulture. He’s currently the president of Terra Nova Nurseries, Inc. – a company noted for its new introductions to horticulture. Dan’s articles and photography have been featured in a number of magazines. He has taught horticulture courses, wholesaled exotic plants, and run his own design-build landscape business. He has hosted a weekly gardening show on radio (KKSN) and has appeared on U.S. (HGTV) and British television (BBC). Dan’s work and garden has been featured in USA Today, Forbes, Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset Magazine, and Organic Gardening. Dan’s job description dictates that he must “travel the world and seek the newest perennials”. Terra Nova’s breeding programs have produced many international gold and silver medal winners and an astounding 600 new plants to horticulture. Dan uses his unique blend of knowledge and humor as he speaks around the United States, in Japan, England, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Tasmania, Australia, and Canada.Dan has written a book of horticultural humor called The Garden Clerk's Dictionary and one on Heucheras and Heucherellas with Grahame Ware of British Columbia, now out by Timber Press.
