Last year, over 7,000
visitors from Bullitt, Hardin, Jefferson, Nelson counties and other areas
enjoyed ColorFest.  The event itself is free after the $5 per
car environmental impact fee at the front gate.  Bernheim members always
enter Bernheim free.  Once inside, hayrides are $2 per person, there is a
minimal charge to paint a pumpkin, food is affordable and other activities are
free.  Donations are accepted at selected activities and are used to
support Bernheim’s mission of Connecting People with Nature
ColorFest is generously sponsored by Jim Beam Brands, Publisher’s
Printing and the Shepherdsville / Bullitt County Tourist and Convention
Commission.

Bernheim protects and
provides for over 14,000 acres of natural areas including a beautiful 250-acre
arboretum with three lakes, 32 miles of hiking trails and 16 miles of paved road
for biking.  More than 8,000 labeled varieties of plants and trees are
showcased, including Bernheim’s nationally-renowned holly collection with
American, Japanese and deciduous hollies.  The LEED® Platinum
Visitor Center is known as “a building like a tree” and features a living green
roof and interactive exhibits on sustainability.  Nearby is the
experimental living roof project, allowing visitors to discover along with
Bernheim staff the best regional plants and growing media for local green
roofs.

More than 250 species
of birds may be found on the property, which is adorned with nature-inspired
artwork. Visitors may also experience life in the treetops and an ever-changing
view on the Canopy Tree Walk, 75 feet above the ground.
