Lift Ev’ry Voice!

Join as we discuss the historic and extraordinary horticultural legacy of some of our nation’s greatest agrarians, artists, writers, photographers, educators, and florists. This exciting cultural conversation will foster a deeper understanding of these vast contributions to the American landscape as well as some plants that inspired their gardens.

This lecture will take a deep dive into Kentucky’s plants along with an inclusive perspective on America’s horticulture history.

Abra Lee’s past positions in horticulture include being a Landscape Manager for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and as a horticulturalist at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Currently, she is a historian, lecturer, and freelance horticulture writer with a focus on researching and writing about Black American garden history. Her first book, Conquer the Soil: Black America and the Untold Stories of Our Country’s Gardeners, Farmers, and Growers, will be published later this year.

Cocktail hour from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and alcoholic beverages available. Lecture follows including time for Q & A.

** Due to the ongoing pandemic, this program requires all attendees (regardless of vaccination status) to social distance and wear a face mask. Hand sanitizer stations will be provided. These guidelines may change per local Covid restrictions or CDC recommendations.
