Letting the Flowers Talk: Spring-Themed Flower Arrangement Workshop

April 6, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$120
Saturday, April 6, 1 – 3 pm
Mahonia Studio, 822 East Market St, 40206
Street parking available
Join fellow participants and Mahonia Floral Designer Mike Ojeda for a hands-on workshop on the basics of floral design, and take your arrangement home. You will gain the knowledge and confidence to create your own floral centerpieces, whether for Easter, Derby, or Mother’s Day.  Principles of color theory, tools, and techniques allow you to develop your own stunning spring-themed table arrangement.

Both as a class and individually, we will learn the concept of designing while “letting the flowers talk” through natural form and movement as well as developing an understanding of flowers as an art medium. Learn proper handling of cut flowers for longevity and, of course, fabricate and take home a floral design using readily accessible materials.

All materials (from vessel to flowers and greens) required for this floral workshop are supplied and included in the registration fee. However, you are welcome to bring your own floral scissors/clippers or a work apron if you wish.

Instructor: Mike Ojeda

Mike joined Mahonia Studio in 2016, and currently leads their floral program as lead designer, and floral coordinator. With a background in photography and design that spans beyond just floral work, Ojeda continues to apply non-floral concepts to his practice as an exercise of experimentation. His work pulls inspiration from nature and the organic movement in growth; the altered use of materials and method, as seen in the Japanese practice of Ikebana; and the work of masters, and contemporary makers throughout the visual art, fashion, and music world.
