Become enchanted with the dynamic orchid plant family – one of the largest of all on the planet.
This introductory, in-person workshop presents basic lifeforms and biology of orchid plants, including flower anatomy, growth habit, and understanding the taxonomy and names of orchids that have been bred by humans for generations. View several different flowering orchid plant types. Potting mix, pots, mounting, and a hands-on repotting demonstration will be covered.
Each registrant may bring up to two personal orchids from home to re-pot during this workshop. Learn to identify some common orchid plant pests.
Finally, each student will take home a jewel orchid (Ludisia) plant to start or add to their personal houseplant collection.

Jim Burnett is a retired science instructor from Olney Central College in Illinois, where he taught an orchid biology class that shared the science and hobbyist lifestyle of orchid growing to undergraduates and community members alike.
