Phase 1A | Complete
EDUCATION LEADS THE WAY
The Graeser Family Education Center is the first completed building on the site, and opened in October 2019.
This early phase also includes the Helen Harrigan Garden, Mary Lee Duthie Garden, educational gardens around the building, the evergreen tapestry, entry gardens, and driveway.
The Graeser Family Education Center
This Graeser Family Education Center is the heart of the botanical gardens at this early stage. The building includes a large, flexible space that hosts a range of activities. From event rentals to weddings and memorials, this space allows visitors to enjoy the gardens from the inside.
The space available to rent for weddings and other gatherings, helping generate revenue. In terms of size, there is enough room for 250 people seated at round tables of 10 seats each.
The building is designed to achieve high levels of environmentally friendly performance. We are working to find ways to minimize our energy and water footprints, including designs to maximize the use of natural light, geothermal heating and cooling, and living systems that will process our wastewater.
Founders’ Garden
An unofficial part of Phase 1A, the Founders’ Garden has already been completed at the site of the future Waterfront Botanical Gardens, near Frankfort Avenue and River Road. The Founders’ Garden is situated around the base of the historic Heigold façade, marking the northern entrance to Frankfort Avenue.
